Filament. Laces. Varsity jerseys. The Alo Fall 17 collection is so detail driven. Wondering where all the inspo came from, we grabbed Alo’s head of design/light beam Mystika Jones for a little Q&A:
Fall 17 is epic and so thoughtfully executed. How did you and the design team get there?
This season has so much city at its core. We were inspired by suspension, meaning how gorgeous buildings and bridges seem to float. The filament pieces come from this idea, where micro-elastic gives invisible structure. And we thought a lot about what people are wearing in and around those structured, light-as-air urban places to get a lot of the street-inspired details—like lace-ups that help create shape, mesh that looks invisible when blocked with fleece, and other sheer effects embedded into pieces.
What are a couple of your favorite new pieces?
The Half Moon Bra totally captures our suspension inspiration. It’s soft with a lightweight fit but has amazing coverage for those who love inversions.
I also love the High Waist Dash Legging. It’s clean and amazing for yoga. It has Alo’s signature, shaping high waist band that gives core support without pinching, and the invisible alignment stripe down the back leg ties back to the weightless structure theme perfectly.
There’s an amazing oversized lacing story for our coverups. Lacing is such a big trend, and it’s great for yoga because it makes getting in and out of coverups easy without zips or a wide neck.
